I do hearth magic because a. I have a hearth and b. We rely on this as our only source of heat for the entire fall, winter and early spring.
I recall the winter that, for the first time in my life, the power went out for days. And I had to camp the fire-place all night keeping it going. Just so we didn’t freeze.
Hearth magic was the gold-plated awesome. I kindled a lamp off of that that I managed to keep “going” for an entire year before a shoddy candle burnt out too quickly and killed the flame.
